Well, it was the first week of June! That meant accounting work for me. I also wanted to start drafting my new series, but I needed more brainstorming so I went back to outlining instead. The weather was hot, hot, hot most of the week but that didn't stop my kids from their normal activities.
Cali and Cheyenne, played more tennis than usual, in fact. They had just started a spring league for tennis when the lock down started and it all got cancelled. To make up for that, they are offering tennis clinics twice a week for awhile. So, the twins had that Monday and Wednesday in the afternoons. They also had their tennis lesson and went daily to the courts to work toward their "100 hour" goal.
In other aspects of their life, Cali and Chey did their "on the road" driving with their instructor in the car twice this week and have officially passed their driving tests. Yay! Now they just need to turn 16 (and get some more hours in behind the wheel).
We had a surprise visit from Aunt Dena this week! Her daughter, Natalya, got really sick this past winter and has been diagnosed with a rare disease that makes it so her body isn't producing blood and platelets as it should. They've been driving to SLC once a week for transfusions but in the middle of June, Natalya will get a bone marrow transplant. They stayed at our house for a couple of nights because the hospital needed to do some tests. I was glad they stayed with us. It was good to see them even if times are hard.
Our library opened up for browsing this week. Yay! Cali, Beth, and I went and Bethany stocked up on Playaways--little gadgets that let you listen to the book when you plug in some earphones and a battery. She's been enjoying those this week. She also had a friend over that she hadn't seen for awhile and went to a friend's house where she got to do fun stuff with two friends (one who had moved away to SLC and came back for a much-longed-for visit). On Friday night she went to a birthday party with pizza and an outdoor movie! Good times!
Benjamin had his friends, the Browskis, over three days this week. They had a rocky day on Monday but seemed to get over it and make some good memories the other days. When his friends aren't here, Ben has started an all-out campaign to convince Kevin and I that he NEEDS a new computer! He needs it for Minecraft and Roblox and the only reason he has any friends is because they share an interest in these games. He's tried for TEN YEARS to be interested in something else but nothing has worked. So, basically, without a computer to play these games, his life will be over. Things are obviously dire.
Mariah worked with Sarah this week and Savannah joined them some of the days, too! Mariah continues to work on her Vietnamese. I've gotten some books from the library about Vietnam or with Vietnamese characters and she always stops on the very first page and explains to me how the consonant combinations and little marks over the letters tell you exactly how to pronounce it and then she works it through. It only takes like three minutes per word. :) She is learning a lot though and its fun to see her working on it. On Friday night she went up the canyon with a couple of her girlfriends and they had a really fun time.
Sarah had a week-break between classes this week. She and her sisters decided to spend some time together making a new-pattern friendship bracelets: Watermelons! It was fun to see them working on them together!
Saturday was stormy and cool but we wanted to do something as a family, so we took a drive! We went up past Kamas and found that it is beautiful there! We took a path next to the river and decided we definitely need to come back when we are prepared for a longer hike. We stopped at the Jordanelle overlook on our way back and then went to Dairy Keen for hamburgers and milkshakes on our way home. It was really fun!
