On Monday night, the sixth graders of Brookside Elementary put on a show of music from the 1900s to today.  Our very own sixth grader, Megan, got to show us the Charleston!

DSC06412 Doesn’t she make a cute flapper?  In honor of the occasion, my mom sent us a picture of herself dressed as a flapper when she was a teenager!

Mom She makes a cute flapper, too!  Which just goes to show that reenacting the roaring twenties is fun no matter what decade.

At Brookside, they’ve combined the study of social studies with the art and music program.  I think that the result is fabulous.  The study of people is definitely linked to their art and music and it makes it so much more interesting to the kids and “hands on.”  I love it.  AND I loved Megan’s program.  She loves to sing and dance and she did great!  (She also got to chase Elvis in a poodle skirt!)

We got the rest of our new carpet this week.  We replaced the carpet in our backroom with a different type of carpet.  The kids all helped pull out the old carpet and were very excited to see what we had picked out.  Savannah got home from school first and said, “I like it . . . It’s pretty and soft, but . . . it looks like old people carpet.”

DSC06450 Yes, we did buy carpet that was all the rage in the 70s.  But, hey, I am a child of the 70s!  And yes, I did take this picture in the middle of Cheyenne and Calianne’s big Sunday morning game of stuffed animals.  I didn’t have the heart to make them clean it up just because I forgot to take a picture before!  So, you get a peek into Sunday morning at the Skinner house.  Which often, of course, includes this, too:

Yesterday, was a big day in our house!  Our baby boy turned one!  Yay, Benjamin!!

DSC06440He’s even in his birthday suit!  Which is, of course, because we were about to give him that cup full of pudding!

DSC06444  Aren’t birthdays grand?

We gave him a bunch of toys, too.  Including, a toy tool box and a car ramp with cars.  He played with them a lot.  I was impressed.  It was like he was saying, “Finally they’re getting some decent toys around here!”  It was a fun day.  We are so glad that he came to join our family.

Uh oh! You got old people carpet. Guess you're old. (Seriously funny.)

Happy birthday to that beautiful boy. I can't believe it's been a year.

Sorry I'm late. Since you made your blog private it doesn't show in my blog reader anymore. I have to remember to go check. Yeah, like that's going to work out well.
